You Make Jesus Smile Award - United Church of Canada

In 2004, Peter Short, Moderator of the United Church of Canada, described the United Church of Canada's position on same-sex marriages as follows:

"All those, regardless of sexual orientation, who are willing to give themselves to transformation by love in the honourable estate are welcome in marriage."

The United Church of Canada's position has not been popular in many religious circles. Members, pastors and administrators in the United Church have more than once taken heat for the denomination's official positions on homosexuality. The United Church of Canada is to be commended for standing up for what is right, for standing for moral principles in the face of opposition.

Peter Short and the United Church of Canada, because your actions make Jesus smile, we present you with the "You Make Jesus Smile" Award. And at the end of time, you will hear God say, "Inasmuch as ye have done [it] unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done [it] unto me" (Matthew 25:40).
