You Make Jesus Smile Award - United Church of Canada
In 2004, Peter Short, Moderator of the United Church of Canada, described the United Church of Canada's position on same-sex marriages as follows:
"All those, regardless of sexual orientation, who are willing to give themselves to transformation by love in the honourable estate are welcome in marriage."
The United Church of Canada's position has not been popular in many religious circles. Members, pastors and administrators in the United Church have more than once taken heat for the denomination's official positions on homosexuality. The United Church of Canada is to be commended for standing up for what is right, for standing for moral principles in the face of opposition.
Those wishing to visit a United Church of Canada congregation may contact the United Church of Canada. Gay people are encouraged to check to see if the local congregation is an affirming congregation.
