Gay Christian Devotion
Psalm 54 (King James Version)
1Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength.
2Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth.
3For strangers are risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have not set God before them. Selah.
4Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul.
5He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: cut them off in thy truth.
6I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise thy name, O LORD; for it is good.
7For he hath delivered me out of all trouble: and mine eye hath seen his desire upon mine enemies.
Reflection
The psalmist finds it easier to praise the Lord and to worship the Lord when God has defeated the psalmist's enemies. We are not any different. We find it much easier to praise God, to worship God with depth and intensity when we have been rescued. When times are rough, we find it very difficult to worship God. During the rough times, you may want to spend a few minutes with a paper and pencil in hand. Write down as many times as you can recall where God has helped you. Carry that list with you for the rest of the day, looking at it from time-to-time. Then you can find it easier to pray to God, to praise God and to want to spend time with the Lord.
