Gay Christian Devotion
Proverbs 6:16-19
Proverbs 6:16-19 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren (KJV).
Reflection
For far too long, Christianity has majored on the minors and minored on the majors. There are few, if any texts, that are even remotely related to loving long-term homosexual relationships. But many people became irrational as they talk about same-gender sexual relationships, because they claim those relationships are an abomination to God. The reality is what is an abomination to God is worshipping idols, and sexual practices that involve worshipping idols. Major sections of the Bible encourage us to be work for social justice, to treat others with respect, and to shy away from evil plans. And where is our emotion regarding the major things, the important things in the Word?
The very people who become enraged about what they feel is a sexual abomination remain strangely silent about other forms of an abomination. They do not show anger about seven abominations in this passage, namely
- Pride
- Lying
- Killing innocent people
- Wicked plans
- Rushing to do evil things
- Giving false witness in court
- Church troublemakers
These things grieve God’s heart, yet we hear almost nothing about them. Perhaps, that is because we are not as closely in touch with God as we often think we are.
