Proverbs 31:1-3 The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him. 2What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows? 3Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings (KJV).
Reflection
Ideally, sexual and emotionally supportive relationships go hand-in-hand. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. When sexual relationships are not based on something more lasting than physical pleasure, the relationships can be destructive. In this proverb, we are challenged to enter into only relationships that build up both partners, not into relationships that degrade one or both partners.
One way to help ensure our relationships are healthy is to make sure we only enter into sexual relationships that are special. The relationship needs to be with a special person, in a special place, for a special reason. Any time the relationship has fails be for a special reason, with a person we feel is very special, we are not in a relationship that honors our partner.
