Proverbs 16:26-27 It is good for workers to have an appetite; an empty stomach drives them on. 27 Scoundrels create trouble; their words are a destructive blaze (NLT).1Reflection
A worker who desperately needs a job to pay bills may worker harder than a person who only wants a job for something to do to occupy free time. The principle holds true in church too. Some people perform volunteer church work, because they want something to occupy their leisure time. Other people serve in church, because they are hungry for God. They have an empty spiritual stomach that only God can fill, so they are driven to serve God. The most powerful advocates of the gospel are those who felt deprived of God’s grace for periods of their life. In many cases, the most devoted servants of God are people who, at one time, felt cut off from God. Perhaps that is why many of God’s most powerful preachers and most dedicated servants are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or trans-identified.
