- 24 and 1/2 inches
Weight - 470 pounds Longest Base String - 46 inches Action - Langer Sounding Board Size - 2240 square inches No two pianos are alike. Even two identical pianos made by the same company have minor variations. There are minor tone, touch and personality differences from one piano to another. You must play the piano to determine the tone, touch and personality of the piano. One cannot do that by reading a review. One needs to play musical instruments and to test them before making a purchase. One should never purchase a piano on the basis of a piano review, regardless of how professional and knowledgeable the reviewer. Personally playing the piano and deciding what you like is essential. Nobody can do that for you, because nobody else has your ear and your preference for touch. The summer of 2002, a new 41 inch Astin-Weight piano was played and compared to a new 45 inch Yamaha studio piano. The comparison was easy to make, because the pianos sat side-by-side in the dealership. In the store, the Astin-Weight immediately catches one's attention. Instead of having a very shiny black or furniture finish, it had an attractive oiled finish that shows the grain of the wood. Compared to the other pianos in the music store, the Astin-Weight was beautiful piece of furniture. The Astin-Weight piano combines a warm, rich tone with a pleasant touch. The Astin-Weight piano has a domestic tone, not as bright sounding as Japanese and Korean pianos. Because the Astin-Weight has a large sounding board for a vertical piano, it has a tone one would expect only in a much larger piano. In addition to having a wonderful warm tone, the piano has excellent touch. While Yamahas have a good action, some people find their touch too heavy. The Astin-Weight 's touch is not as heavy as the Yamaha studio piano. The Astin-Weight compares very well with the well-known domestic (Baldwin and Steinway) and Japanese (Yamaha and Kawai) vertical pianos. This Astin-Weight model is more enjoyable to play than some Steinway vertical pianos. The package of tone and touch made the Astin-Weight more enjoyable to play than the Yamaha. After playing the piano a few minutes, the reviewer fell in love with the Astin-Weight. If you are in the market for a quality vertical piano, you will want to consider the Astin-Weight.
