The Vomit Awards - Jerry Falwell

Jerry Falwell is the founder and pastor of a large congregation. Jerry Falwell and his congregation started a Christian university that has helped educate many young people and many leaders.

After the September 11 terrorist attacks that killed hundreds of people in New York City, Jerry Falwell is reported to have said that the terrorist attacks were due to the American Civil Liberties Union, abortionists, pagans, feminists and gay people. These comments would have been damaging enough had they been said from the pulpit of a small congregation. Unfortunately, they are reported to have been said on a Christian television program. More information about Jerry Falwell's comments can be read at the Religious Tolerance web site.

America was stunned and was reeling in pain and grief. At a time when America desperately needed a pastor to give the assurance of God's love and support, and to comfort hurting hearts, the comments attributed to Jerry Falwell portray God as an evil, vindictive God, a God who strikes innocent people down for the sins of others. Jerry Falwell, the comments you are reported to have made make God sick. Jerry Falwell you make Jesus vomit. We award you with the "You Make Jesus Vomit" award.

Jerry, our hope is that this award will help you see your sins against God, against gay people and against America. We pray that God will do a wonderful work in your heart and will transform your ministry into a loving, grace-filled, life-changing ministry.
