Fred Phelps is the pastor of a small congregation. His claim to fame is the demonstrations he holds against gay people.

Probably the most hate-filled and tasteless demonstration Fred Phelps lead was when Phelps and some of his congregants protested at the funeral of Matthew Shepard. Matthew, a gay Wyoming college student, was murdered for being gay. On Fred Phelp's web site, www.godhatesfags.com, one can see a photo that is reported to have been taken of the protest of Matthew Shepard's funeral. The photo shows one person holding a sign that reads, "No Fags in Heaven."

When Fred Phelps could have reached out in love to a hurting, grieving family, he used a funeral to act in a way that my opinion sickened an entire nation and sickened our Lord. Fred Phelps you make Jesus vomit. We award you with the "You Make Jesus Vomit" award.

Fred, our hope is that this award will help you see your sins against God, against gay people and against America and will help you determine to do a better job of living for God.
