Prayer Forgiving God

There are times when expressing anger with God and forgiving God for ways you feel God did not treat you fairly or with justice can bring healing. Many gay people need to forgive God for being gay.

Expressing anger in a constructive manner helps build deeper relationships. When we express our anger and frustration with God, we find our relationship with God grows very deep and the old wounds start to heal. Forgiving God for being gay helps one's relationship with God and one's Christian walk.

The prayer below is an exerpt from a prayer written by a very dedicated gay Christian. The prayer is posted with permission. In the prayer, the gay Believer pours out anger and frustration over being created gay and then forgives God for the pain being gay brought to life.

One thing this prayer clearly shows is that the author does not feel being gay was a choice. In fact, being gay seems to be something the author fought and struggled with.

A note of clarification may help people understand the prayer. When you see the word me in pink italics, the word me refers to being gay.

Lord, I did not choose to be me.
You made me me.
You gave me no choice.
You did not consult me.

Lord, You put me in a world that hates me.
You gave me a home that hates me.
The church you made me hates me.
The Word you gave me hates me.
You gave me no choice.
You did not consult me.

Lord, strange and different you made me.
Really strange and different you made me.
You made me be afraid of me.
You gave me no choice.
You did not consult me.

Lord, a freak you made me.
One to be hated and killed you made me.
You made others afraid of me.
You gave me no choice.
You did not consult me.

Lord, hate you gave me.
Hate you gave me.
You made me hate me.
You even made me hate You.
You gave me no choice.
You did not consult me.

Lord, the anger you gave me is too much for me.
The anger you gave me is too much for me.
The anger hurts me and it hurts me.
So I give You the anger.
I forgive You.
I give You no choice.
I do not consult You.
